HUNDREDS GATHER AT SERVICE TO RECALL TUCSON ATTACK

By AMANDA LEE MYERS | AP

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Hundreds of people gathered at the University of Arizona for speeches in tribute to each person who died and was wounded in a deadly shooting rampage one year ago.

It’s the latest in a day full of events.

Colorado Sen. Mark Udall, who was born and raised in Tucson, spoke about Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who is recovering from a gunshot to the head.

He praised Giffords for working for the good of the country, and said other politicians can learn from her and move away from incendiary comments.

He says while Giffords struggles with her words at times, “we know what she’s trying to say.”

Pat Maisch is set to speak on behalf of everyone who survived. She grabbed a gun magazine from Jared Lee Loughner after he was tackled during the shooting
