JFK, being Roman Catholic, was acutely aware of the dangers of mixing religious and political institutions, and so was a strong proponent of the separation of church and state. 50 years ago the conservative right was afraid that JFK’s religion would get in the way of him governing. We need to listen to JFK again for what he said makes a great bit of sense then and is just as relative today.
