WAS LIBYA AN U.S. RENDITION SITE?

Reporters currently in Tripoli have found documents at the offices of Libya’s former spymaster that detail the relationship between Libya and the CIA.  These documents seem to indicate the United States sent terrorist suspects to Libya – which is a country known for torture.  The documents indicate that this happened on at least eight occasions.

Another document looked as if it was written as a speech that American had written for Muammar Gaddafi

A spokeswoman for the CIA said “It can’t come as a surprise the Central Intelligence Agency works with foreign governments to help protect our country from terrorism and other deadly threats.”  But, a spokesman for Human Rights Watch suggested, “The rendition program was all about handing over these significant figures related to al Qaeda so they could torture them and get the information they wanted.”

Most of these rendition documents seem to refer to CIA operations, but at least one was claimed to have been carried out by MI-6.

There were found at least three binders of English-language documents, one marked CIA while the other two marked MI-6, as well as a larger stash of documents in Arabic.
