There has been a turn in a direction that almost no one on either side could have predicted would happen. There are large groups of Trump’s own supporter base now making the demand that he fire his own son-in-law Jared Kushner from the White House. Many have the opinion that Kushner being a close adviser is too close to nepotism anyway. Others in overwhelming force have made “#FireKushner” the second most popular trending topic on social media. In a rare moment of agreement, Trump’s detractors are helping to further that message.
The incident was in part sparked by Donald Trump‘s removal this week of far-right white nationalist Steve Bannon from the White House National Security Council. This, together with the reports of Trump at the same time handing a wide range of new foreign and domestic power to Jared Kushner, has led many in Trump’s base to determine that Kushner is at fault for Bannon’s demotion. Part of that emotion came from Trump’s InfoWars gun-nut and conspiracy theorist pal Alex Jones, who posted a rather bizarre video to that effect. But other Trump supporters are blaming Kushner for Trump’s sudden interest in playing traffic cop in Syria. Accordingly, the angry tweets from Trump’s base look like this:
#FireKushner or America will never be great.
ENDLESS SIMILAR TWEETS
You can find many more similar tweets from Trump supporters at the #FireKushner hashtag. Remarkably, a number of Donald Trump’s detractors have begun using that same hashtag to pile on with anti-Kushner tweets, as well as tweets just making fun of Trump’s base for turning against one of its own. This has furthered the standing of the trending hashtag, causing even more embarrassment for Trump.
