Information on Fibromyalgia

For those of you that have a family member with fibromyalgia, it takes a lot to understand with a person who looks perfectly well.  All of the symptoms are of pain and fatigue and that is very hard for family members to understand.  Their mother or other family member looks perfectly well but they have widespread fatigue that leaves them tired most of the time.

Chronic widespread pain and tenderness are not the only fibromyalgia symptoms.  Other symptoms may include:

  • Deep muscle pain and soreness;
  • Morning stiffness;
  • Flu-like aching;
  • Radiating pain;
  • Sensitivity to touch;
  • Problems sleeping;
  • Fatigue;
  • Difficulty thinking clearly, also known as “fibro fog”;
  • Difficulty performing everyday tasks;
  • Stress and anxiety;
  • Depression;
  • Migraine headaches.

The symptoms of fibromyalgia vary from person to person. The symptoms can be worse on some days than others. Fibromyalgia symptoms can also be affected by the level of stress or physical activity. All these factors contribute to making fibromyalgia a condition that is difficult to diagnose, as well as to cure.  Anti-depressions are often prescribed as well as medication to help with sleep.

If you have a family member with fibromyalgia it helps the more understanding the family can show.
