House Republicans have blocked an effort by Democrats to force President Trump to release his tax returns to Congress.
REP. BILL PASCRELL
Democratic Rep. Bill Pascrell of New Jersey stated on Monday that Congress has a responsibility to hold the executive branch “to the highest standard of transparency to ensure the public interest is placed first.” Pascrell together with other Democrats said the tax returns also would help lawmakers and the public determine if Trump has any investments in Russia.
Trump has said he has no investments in Russia, and Democrats state they have no evidence otherwise. They said that is one reason they want to gain access to Trump’s returns. Without those tax returns, any investigation in Congress will have to dig harder to find the information that they need about Trump and his connections with Russia.
GOP CONTROLLED HOUSE
The Republican-controlled House on Monday approved Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s motion to postpone indeterminately Pascrell’s proposal. The vote was 229 to 185. Find out how your Representatives voted and remember this vote when they come up for re-election.
And think about this – Trump is going to extreme levels to stop anyone from knowing what he is hiding concerning himself and the Kremlin. All of this would not happen if there would be a special prosecutor appointed to investigate President Trump and his connection with Russia. Let your Senators and House Members know how you feel.
