Just before sunset on Wednesday afternoon, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani‘s English-language Twitter account sent out a message wishing all Jews a happy Rosh Hashanah.

The tweet’s blessings for “all Jews” — not just those living in Iran — is particularly stunning given the hostilities between Iran and the State of Israel, which has often included Iranian officials condemning the Jewish state with anti-Semitic language.

Whether Rouhani himself was behind the tweet is unknown. The Washington Post‘s Max Fisher reports that the account was used by Rouhani’s presidential campaign team, but now that the election is over, it’s unclear who has been using it to tweet. A spokesperson for the president “did not directly dispute the English-language account or say the tweets don’t represent Rouhani’s views,” Fisher added, calling it a “non-denial denial.”
