DON’T LET GOVERNOR PERRY DEFUND PLANNED PARENTHOOD

The witch hunt against Planned Parenthood continues, and the latest battleground is Texas.

Governor Perry is poised to implement a law that prohibits Medicare and Medicaid money from going to women’s health centers that are affiliated with an organization that provides abortions.

That means that Planned Parenthood affiliates would not be eligible to receive money through the Texas Women’s Health Program for vital (and non-abortion) health services, like cancer, HIV and STD screenings.

But it gets worse. Federal law prohibits states from choosing which health care providers receive funding. And if Texas doesn’t stop this attack on women’s health, the Obama Administration has said it will pull its federal funding of the program — effectively ending a program that helps more than 100,000 women a year gain access to healthcare services.

Tell Governor Perry: Don’t you dare defund Planned Parenthood. Stop playing politics with women’s health. Click here to automatically sign the petition.

Governor Perry is staunchly anti-choice. But the victory in restoring funding from the Susan G. Komen Foundation to Planned Parenthood showed that when we stand up to anti-choice and anti-woman activists trying to block access to basic women’s health care, we can win.

But in order to win, we need a huge number of Texans to speak out and demand that Governor Perry stop playing politics with women’s health.

As governor, Governor Perry has the authority to stop this assault on women’s health care and ensure that low-income women in Texas can continue to have access to critically important health care services.

The law isn’t set to be implemented for a few weeks, so we have a short window of time to ensure that Governor Perry hears that Texans adamantly oppose this new rule. Speak out now to help protect women’s health in Texas.
