Here is my list of celebrities who I most admire from the year 2011.  They are not in any order as they all have their special qualities that make them special for me.  I do not only admire them for what they have accomplished in their professional lives but for the dignity and grace that all of these wonderful individuals face the world each day.

Hillary Clinton should have been elected President during our last election – or, at least I believe that to be so, but she has to be admired for the work she has done as Secretary of State.  She has put into place institutional changes seeking to maximize departmental effectiveness and promote the empowerment of women worldwide, and has set records for most-traveled secretary for time in office. She has been at the forefront of the U.S. response to the Arab Spring, including advocating for the military intervention in Libya.

In the Mideast turmoil, Clinton saw an opportunity to advance one of the central themes of her tenure, the empowerment and welfare of women and girls worldwide. By now Clinton had set the record for most-traveled Secretary of State for a comparable period of time, logging 465,000 miles (748,000 km) and visiting 79 countries.   She continued to address rights concerns in a December 2011 speech before the United Nations Human Rights Council, saying that the U.S. would advocate for gay rights abroad and that “Gay rights are human rights” and that “It should never be a crime to be gay”. The same month saw her conclude the first visit to Burma by a U.S. secretary of state since 1955, as she met with Burmese leaders as well as opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi and sought to support the 2011 Burmese democratic reforms.

In American actormotivational speaker and former U.S. Army soldier. Starting in 2008, he played the role of Brot Monroe on the ABC daytime drama All My Children. He is the winner of Season 13 of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. On November 1st, 2011, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association picked Martinez as the Grand Marshal of the 2012 Rose Parade.

In 2003, Martinez sustained severe burns to over 40 percent of his body while serving as a United States Army infantryman in Iraq.

I first saw J.R. on this year’s Dancing with the Stars – which I never watch but for some reason I did and I got sucked in by J.R.’s charm and ended up watching the whole season in which J.R. won.  This young man after being horribly burned while in Iraq has never let his disfigurement stand in his way as he has gone on to have much personal and professional success.

Who did not watch this couple’s Royal Wedding this year?  What an adorable couple they are – I totally fell in love with them and since then, have kept up with what they are doing.  Prince William has much of his mother in him and will someday make England a wonderful king.

Versatility and genius often go hand in hand, but seldom as exuberantly as in Meryl Streep‘s body of work. From Shakespeare  to ABBA, from Sophie’s Choice and Kramer vs. Kramer right through Julie & Julia and The Devil Wears Prada, from tragedy to musicals and everything in between, the sheer breadth and joy of her artistry counts as one of the most exhilarating cultural spectacles of our time. Going into her fourth decade of acting, Streep has made more than 45 movies and has received 16 Academy Award nominations, winning two, and 25 Golden Globe nominations, winning seven, more nominations than any other actor in the history of either award. Her work has also earned her two Emmy Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, a Cannes Film Festival award, five New York Film Critics Circle Awards, five Grammy Award nominations, as well as a BAFTA award.

I have never seen a movie of Meryl without being absolutely amazed at her performance.  She is one of our country’s greatest treasures.  Her latest movie just released is Iron Lady where Meryl stars as Margaret Thatcher.

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins better known simply as Adele, is an English singer-songwriter. She was the first recipient of the Brit Awards “Critics’ Choice” and was named the number-one predicted breakthrough act of 2008 in an annual BBC poll of music critics, Sound of 2008. Since her debut album, 19, Adele has received much recognition both commercially and critically. The album debuted at number one and has been certified four times platinum in the UK. Her career in the US was boosted by a viewer record–breaking Saturday Night Live episode in late 2008. At the 2009 Grammy Awards, Adele won the awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

Adele released her second album, 21, on 24 January 2011 in the UK and 22 February in the US. The album was well received critically and made her a record-breaking success selling 208,000 copies in its first week in the UK and debuting at number one on the UK Albums Chart, a position it managed to hold for 16 weeks. In the United Kingdom, 21 has been certified 14 times platinum for shipment of 4.2 million units. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in the US, selling 352,000 copies in its first week. The album has charted at number one in 24 countries, including several charts across Europe, Australia and the United States.

I have never bought an album before in which I loved every song on it – Adele’s 21 was the first time – I can not get enough of her voice and her style as she is a genius not only with her voice and singing but also as a song writer.

This is the funniest person I’ve ever seen – and how she makes me laugh.  Laughter is a special emotion that we do not have enough of in this world but for over 20 years Kathleen has been touring the world with her special brand of comedy.  She has even entertained the troops during two holiday tours.

She has appeared on Last Comic StandingI Love the 90s: Part DeuxI Love the ’80s 3-D, and Celebrity Poker Showdown. She has also starred in her own HBO Half-Hour Comedy Special and aComedy Central Presents special. She is a veteran of The Tonight Show with Jay LenoLate Night with Conan O’BrienThe Late Show with David Letterman, and The Bob and Tom Show. She also hosts a radio program on Blue Collar Comedy. Available on Sirius Satellite Radio channel 103, and XM Satellite Radio channel 97.  In 1996, Katheen won “Funniest Female Stand-Up Comic” at the American Comedy Awards.  Her tour schedule is on her website and I would advise everyone to make an attempt to spend an evening with her and go away feeling a bit better about everything.
